Lostprophets' Ian Watkins stabbed, beat, and hospitalized after altercation in prison
Ian Watkins, disgraced frontman of Lostprophets, has been rushed to the hospital after being attacked by fellow inmates in HMP Wakefield prison. Currently serving a 35-year prison sentence for multiple sexual offenses, including against young children and babies, Watkins was reportedly taken hostage by three inmates early Saturday morning.
Watkins alledgedly suffered stab wounds and endured beatings before being freed by prison officers approximately six hours later. Emergency services worked to save his life while he was treated at the scene.
The incident is currently under investigation by the police.
Speaking to The Sun, sources stated:
"Watkins was attacked today by three pretty heavy-duty cons.
They got hold of him on B-wing and dragged him into a cell where they roughed him up and barricaded themselves in.
He was screaming and was obviously terrified and in fear of his life.
They put the whole wing on lockdown and then sent in riot teams."
"Other prisoners heard three loud flash bangs which was when the officers got into the cell and threw grenades to stun the attackers and take them by surprise.
It seems like the prison officers might have saved his life.
Watkins is obviously unpopular because of who he is – and has been walking around with a huge target on his back.
They got him on a Saturday, which is generally quieter with less staff on and it seems to have been planned.
People heard that he was in a bad way when he came out but will probably survive.
He was taken to Leeds and was still in hospital."
Described as a "determined and committed pedophile," Watkins pled guilty in 2013 to heinous crimes such as the attempted rape of a baby, sexual assault of a child under 13, and conspiring to rape a child. The evidence presented during the trial included disturbing text and internet messages, as well as a graphic video featuring Watkins engaging in a sexual act with a child in a London hotel room.
The sentencing judge described the case as pushing the boundaries of depravity, emphasizing Watkins' complete lack of remorse and referring to him as a significant risk to the public, particularly women with young children. As a result of his actions, Watkins was handed a lengthy 35-year prison term, which was later extended by an additional 10 months for possession of a mobile phone behind bars.
