Gary Holt to release memoir, “A Fabulous Disaster”, in April 2025

Gary Holt, guitarist of Slayer and Exodus, will release his memoir A Fabulous Disaster: From the Garage to Madison Square Garden, the Hard Way on April 8th, 2025 through Hachette Books, chronicling his chaotic life and the rise of the Bay Area thrash metal scene.

The book dives into Holt's journey as the primary songwriter for Exodus, a band that earned critical acclaim but faced constant struggles with mismanagement, bad decisions, and bad luck, even as peers like Metallica and Slayer rose to superstardom.

The memoir explores Holt's wild ride through major label deals, MTV tours, and his descent into addiction and personal turmoil, including battles with alcohol, meth, and the loss of bandmates. A Fabulous Disaster is described as an "unadulterated odyssey" filled with candid insights and redemption from decades of excess and chaos.
