Foo Fighters' "My Hero" apparently licensed by Trump campaign for RFK Jr. endorsement
Donald Trump's campaign recently played Foo Fighters' 1997 mega-hit track "My Hero" as the former president received an endorsement of political rival-turned-supporter Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at a rally in Arizona as Trump welcomed Kennedy on stage amidst pyrotechnics during the playing of the Foos song.
Following this, Foo Fighters stated that they were not asked for permission and would not have approved it if they were. They mentioned taking appropriate actions against the Trump campaign and vowed to donate any royalties received to the Harris/Walz campaign.
As it turns out, however, The Independent recently obtained documents suggesting that the campaign did in fact obtain a license to use the song from BMI's Songview service.
A campaign spokesperson simply said:
We have a license to play the song.
Trump praised RFK Jr. during the event, highlighting his long-standing relationship with him and his work in bringing people together across the political spectrum. The Kennedy family, however, expressed disappointment in the endorsement, labeling it a betrayal and emphasizing their vision for a hopeful and united America.
Foo Fighters' management has not commented further on the matter at this time.
