Sepultura's Derrick Green reflects on drummer Eloy Casagrande's exit from band for Slipknot
While guesting on Toby Morse's One Life One Chance podcast, Sepultura vocalist Derrick Green recently opened up about the "surreal" moment he discovered that drummer Eloy Casagrande was leaving the band to join Slipknot. The news hit just before Sepultura's scheduled rehearsals for their March and April 2024 South American shows.
Casagrande informed his ex-bandmates and managers about his new role with Slipknot only after signing a contract with them, leaving Derrick Green, who wasn't present at the meeting, surprised by the news delivered via another band member.
Green was packing for the trip when guitarist Andreas Kisser called to break the news. Casagrande, who had been with Sepultura since 2011, announced his departure in February 2024, just ahead of the band's fall farewell tour marking their 40th anniversary.
Green shared:
He's like, 'He's out.' I was like, 'What do you mean? What are you talking about, who's out?' He was just like, 'Yeah, Eloy is out.' And I was just like, kind of falling in a black hole like, 'What are you talking about?'
It was totally surreal, it was like literally in slow motion. I was just trying to get my breath.
We were just panicking because we had no clue what to do. We weren't expecting this at all
Shortly after, Kisser reached out to Greyson Nekrutman, of Suicidal Tendencies, via Instagram to discuss a potential new role. That call led to Nekrutman joining Sepultura. Interestingly, Jay Weinberg, who left Slipknot, subsequently took Nekrutman's place in Suicidal Tendencies.

Post CommentBoring drummer leaves shitty nu metal for slightly different shitty nu metal band. Very brave to talk about this.
Bro was probably legally bound out his ass to do everything the way he did. Sounds about right for slipknot.
Dwid is stoked he doesn't have to pay child support to moon and toby anymore. BIL

does anyone care about this band post max? You know they draw equal to what Max draws out doing Sep covers with his brother and more than any of max's other projects by a mile, right?

You know they draw equal to what Max draws out doing Sep covers with his brother and more than any of max's other projects by a mile, right? Literally all because of the brand name. I can't name a single Sepultura song post-Cavalera.

Jay Weinberg<---the punchline that keeps on giving. Living off of the clout of his last name just because his father is "Maxwell"
I'm surprised Toby didn't try to shove his kid into the role.
