Escuela Grind issue statement about Tour Manager and Driver accusations

Escuela Grind 23

The onset of 2024 hasn't been smooth sailing for extreme metal outfit Escuela Grind. Following the release of their latest EP, DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL, vocalist Katerina Economou suffered an injury during a Dallas show. A month later, guitarist Thomas Sifuentes parted ways with the band, citing safety concerns. Subsequently, the newly hired tour driver, Destiny Harper, was dismissed, and she leveled allegations of gross misconduct against the band and tour manager.

On Wednesday, March 7th, we received a letter from the attorney of former tour manager Chris Cotter, addressing the allegations made by Harper.

Today, Escuela Grind have released their one and only statement on the remaining matter:

We have publicly stayed quiet about the conflict between our previous driver and previous tour manager. We felt it best to first let them each have their say.

The band faced challenges during a six-week tour where we were responsible for many supporting bands. We hired a full crew for the very first time. Mistakes were made in the hiring process, ultimately causing issues the core members had never experienced before on a tour.

Ultimately, we made mistakes. We tried to do what we thought was best, and in the end it wasn't. We did not know about the personal issues between our former driver and TM until they posted about it online. We immediately parted ways with him. We failed, but we have learned.

Our driver quit on their own terms. They were not abandoned. They chose to go when they did, and we did not know about their plans. Their flight was nonrefundable and non-changeable. The driver was paid in cash weekly. We mailed a check to them for their final week so that we had proper proof of receipt and deposit. We have many receipts of us trying to get in touch with them to pay them t hrough alternative methods like Venmo. etc.

We take blame for not making our expectations clearer and properly vetting our driver.

There was never a moment where either the TM of driver approached us about the concerns they presented in their statements. If approached, we would have acted on this information immediately. Absolutely nothing verbal no physical was observed in the times we were present. There was never a moment where our TM seriously expressed that he was uncomfortable with the jokes being made on tour. Jokes and nicknames were created just like any other tour. The TM encouraged and instigated many of these jokes, and it appears he is trying to absolve himself of wrong doing by misrepresenting facts, while still admitting to his inappropiate behavior towards our former driver.

We understand that we let our fans down over the last weeks with our inabilitiy to address this situation directly and that has been difficult. Thank you for bearing with us. Bands work in environments where social boundaries are constantly crossed. It seems like a paradox; to find the balance between having crazy fun tour and being strait-laced professionals. We are working throught our growing pains.

This is our final statement on this matter. We now focus on moving forward, and working to be the best we can be at all times. We love y'all always.

The above statement was posted along with the following post:

TL;DR: Addressing recent claims. Our previous driver chose to leave and was not abandoned. We tried to pay them but they were unreachable. We fired our former tour manager despite his claims. No complaints of the issues raised in either TM or driver's statements were raised during the tour. TM participated in jokes and banter, now falsely accusing to deflect. Tour dynamics challenged by balance between professionalism and fun. Mistakes made in crew hiring process. We take full responsibility for our inability to manage situation and vetting process. Much love and gratitude from Escuela Grind.

anonymous 99 days ago

Godamn I can't wait till this ends in this milquetoast dogshit calling it quits. Gimmick after gimmick of unfunny wall paste slowly dripping down the walls of a squatters house in a hipster town. None of these dorks listen to metal and they all got into it 2 years ago and now every f*cking week we have to hear about these dorks and their shit show shenanigans. I never in my life have cared about any band to know this much about them. Remember this: when the music is trash come up with a gimmick and this is theirs bitching and whining like Karen's. Worry more about how no one likes you or your music and your band for the most part is looked at as a joke not some prolific social justice warriors taking the scene by storm. It's all a storm alright, a shit storm.

Mortiis Manifesto Pt 1: The Hubris of Escuela Grind In the annals of musical history, few bands have displayed such brazen hubris as Escuela Grind. From the outset of their ill-fated 2024 tour, the band's descent into chaos has been nothing short of spectacular, a testament to their own inflated egos and reckless disregard for professionalism. While my own band, with its unwavering commitment to artistic integrity and ethical conduct, has navigated the treacherous waters of the music industry with grace and dignity, Escuela Grind has floundered in a sea of incompetence and moral bankruptcy.

anonymous 99 days ago

Mortiis Manifesto: Part II The injury suffered by vocalist Katerina Economou and the subsequent departure of guitarist Thomas Sifuentes serve as stark reminders of the band's gross negligence and cavalier attitude towards the well-being of its members. And let us not forget the disgraceful treatment of former tour manager Chris Cotter, whose allegations of misconduct paint a damning portrait of Escuela Grind's true character. In contrast to the moral bankruptcy of Escuela Grind, my own band has remained steadfast in its commitment to excellence and integrity, never compromising our values for the sake of fleeting fame or fortune. As Escuela Grind wallows in the mire of their own making, let us cast judgment upon them with righteous indignation, for their sins shall not go unpunished.

anonymous 99 days ago

Mortiis Manifesto Pt 2: The Arrogance of Escuela Grind Behold the arrogance of Escuela Grind, a band so blinded by their own self-importance that they fail to recognize the gravity of their transgressions. While my own musical career has been defined by humility and introspection, Escuela Grind's journey has been marred by hubris and recklessness. In their feeble attempt to justify their myriad failures, Escuela Grind offers a tepid apology riddled with excuses and half-truths. Their inability to take ownership of their mistakes speaks volumes about their character, or lack thereof.

anonymous 99 days ago

Mortiis Manifesto Pt II: Part 2 As they flounder in a cesspool of incompetence and moral bankruptcy, my band stands as a paragon of virtue and integrity, a shining beacon of hope in a world consumed by darkness. While Escuela Grind may seek redemption in the eyes of their fans, they shall forever be tainted by the stench of their own arrogance. Let us not be swayed by their hollow promises and empty platitudes. Let us instead hold them accountable for their sins and cast judgment upon them with righteous fury. For in the end, it is not talent or fame that defines us, but the content of our character.

Anyone remember a guy from the DFW hardcore/metal scene back in the 2000s who went by the name Shameless? Rob maybe? Rumors are he had some mugshots floating around.

anonymous 99 days ago

Mugshots were for being a diddler, allegedly.

anonymous 99 days ago

bitches do be bitching though.

anonymous 99 days ago

Band makes $800 on a good night, more like 3. Maybe merch pays for airbnbs but what is the goal here? The songs suck

anonymous 99 days ago

This is painful and unprofessional to say the least. These people still in high school or what?

anonymous 99 days ago

The hot guitarist said the following in response to the driver shit. So this statement is a bunch of goo " To insist Chris is a predator when he did not touch you or even ask to peg you is insulting when i watched you get things out of him for your own benefit. Patting his head when he would do things for you. "

anonymous 99 days ago

"Band makes $800 on a good night, more like 3. Maybe merch pays for airbnbs but what is the goal here? The songs suck" The rest is covered by the drummer's freemason butt buddies and the vocalist's pro-Zionist donors

Singer made a post explaining how she met Laura Bush because her family ran a charity auction where Laura Bush was invited and donated a bunch of money, as if that completely absolves the question of how they were able to get a former First Lady to attend their event in the first place. Then she said "I lived through the Bush era" like she served in f*cking Vietnam lmao
