Mr. Bungle former saxophonist Theo Lengyel person of interest in girlfriend's disappearance
Alice 'Alyx' Kamakaokalani Herrmann, 61, is missing since December 3 in Santa Cruz. Her ex-boyfriend, Theobald Brooks Lengyel, 54, also known as 'Theo,' has not cooperated with the investigation, according to the police. Lengyel, a founding member of the band Mr. Bungle, is now considered a person of interest by El Cerrito police.
Herrmann's family reported her missing on December 12 after not hearing from her for over a week. The police found her vehicle in front of Lengyel's El Cerrito home, and he reportedly traveled from El Cerrito to Portland, Oregon, in the days following Herrmann's disappearance.
The police statement issued on Saturday identified Theo Lengyel as a person of interest in the disappearance of Alice Hermann. The Bay Area musician, also known as 'Mylo Stone,' has reportedly not cooperated with the investigation.
Both vehicles belonging to the couple are now in police custody, and authorities are seeking information about their actions from December 3, 2023, onward. The El Cerrito Police Department encourages anyone with information to contact them, and the investigation involves collaboration with detectives from Capitola and Portland Police Departments.
Residents who frequent regional parks and open spaces are asked to remain vigilant for anything suspicious that might provide clues about Hermann's whereabouts. Descriptions of the missing individuals include Hermann, a 5'04" Pacific Islander, often seen with her red 2007 Toyota Highlander SUV. Lengyel, a 5'10", 170-pound former saxophone player, drives a blue 1989 Ford pickup truck and also goes by the name 'Mylo Stone.'
While not officially a suspect, Lengyel is the sole person of interest named in the ongoing nearly week-long case. He played saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards in the Humboldt County rock group, joining at age 16 in 1986 and later achieving commercial success after signing with Warner Bros in the early '90s following a move to San Francisco.
Lengyel contributed keyboards to the album and played woodwinds, keyboards, and organ on Mr. Bungle's second studio release, Disco Volante, in 1995. He also made a special guest appearance, alongside other Mr. Bungle members, on the Melt Banana song 'Area 877 [Phoenix Mix]' from their 1998 album Charlie.
Departing from the band in the second quarter of 1999 due to unspecified 'creative differences' with other members, Lengyel has since disappeared from the music scene. Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn, in a 2005 interview, vaguely mentioned Lengyel's departure on less-than-amicable terms.
According to Dunn, the band unanimously chose to continue without Lengyel because he wasn't evolving with the rest of the group, and they were running out of roles for him. Lengyel, reportedly upset, severed ties, and Dunn admitted to losing contact with him since.
In the ongoing week-long investigation, law enforcement has refrained from naming an official suspect, and they haven't disclosed why Lengyel is not cooperating with their efforts.
