Drain frontman Sammy Ciaramitaro speaks on Riot Fest performance

drain 2023

Julian Berman

Prior to their appearance at Furnace Fest, Drain was slated to perform in Chicago, IL at Riot Fest. During the performance, as Drain usually does, they instruct the audience to join them on stage for a good hardcore time.

Though hardcore bands are invited to perform at the event periodically, it is safe to say that the event is not super familiar to hardcore. That being said, when Drain's frontman Sammy Ciaramitaro called for fans to jump the barricade and join them on stage, things escalated quickly

In a post-performance interview with Q101 Chicago, Ciaramitaro explains that their performance was not only their first time being a part of Riot Fest but could also be their last due to the incident. Ciaramitaro expressed his love for the event, that they didn't mean any trouble, and exclaimed about the band's live performance and introducing people to the genre.

Watch the full post-show interview below, skip to minute mark 20:55 of the video to hear Ciaramitrao's comment on the stage performance.

Did he speak on how Harms Way sold out The Metro when the lambgoat fantasy promoter assured us over and over and over that it wouldn't? That's the real hard hitting news right there

anonymous 147 days ago

Sammy Cilantro looks like Glen Frey from The Eagles circa 1985 😂 SMH @ this clown for explaining his band acting like idiots @ Riot Fest. Yo jump over the barricade even though you're not alloeed to do that and/because someone could get crushed or trampled possibly to death. Your fifteen minutes of fame are up Samsonite (his real first name.)

"I'm douchebag that was f*cking with hard working people. They were there to guarantee the safety of our fans, but I'm asshole who don't really care for that."

WHO GIVES A f*ck.

Every post. Hilarious how much of a broken record you are. Same shit different band. First Terror then Turnstile, Scowl now Harm's Way. And you give yourself up every time like the idiot you are.

anonymous 147 days ago

Drain? More like Dookie.

anonymous 147 days ago

Hey kids its ok we play a big scary music called hardcore that you've never heard of but this is what we do bc hardcore is REAL

And you are autistic hahahaha

anonymous 147 days ago

^ No one cares about Harmed Gay. Go away.

anonymous 147 days ago

Terror didn't get invited because no one cares about them Scowl had to turn it down because they had a bigger fest they got booked on Turnstile DID headline one of the nights Pain of Truth was busy with multiple huge shows in Japan Gel was also busy playing to a sold out 1500 capacity venue in New Jersey the same night

anonymous 147 days ago

babymetal, dude

anonymous 147 days ago

anonymous 1 minute ago ^ No one cares about Harms way. ^ I care. They sold out before I could get a ticket. I was really looking forward to it too. I knew it would sell out cause I'm not an autistic retard, but I did not expect it to sell out THAT quickly!

anonymous 147 days ago

^management payed for all these tickets + a 400 person guest list for all these shows. Insider will come and say all of this shortly.

anonymous 147 days ago

Drain should call for everyone to do the waffle stomp during a breakdown.

anonymous 147 days ago

Imagine if Sammy ever did an episode of Hardlore. That episode would make $1.5 million from views on it's own! The biggest name in hardcore on the biggest podcast in the world

anonymous 147 days ago

How do I get put on this extensive guestlist? I really need a ticket.

anonymous 147 days ago

Who tha f*ck is Harm's Way tho? Never heard a single song.

anonymous 147 days ago

Hard to believe a band like Harms way who has been around awhile has a newfound hype/draw based on a popular podcast that exposes them/the genre to a new generation of fans who weren't around 10 years ago. It really isn't rocket science understanding why there is a newfound interest.

anonymous 147 days ago

I was there. The security freaked out and it was hilarious. The gap between the stage and the barricade was way too far to stagedive anyway. Crazy crowd though. Just like all the crowds I see at Chicago hardcore shows minus The Rumble when they put it outside

anonymous 147 days ago

Did anyone see bits of Corey Feldman's set at Riot Fest? It's the most embarrassing thing I have ever seen besides that one super autistic scott vogel dude on here ranting about turnstile and harms way every post.

The Polish sausage in Chicago is excellent!

^^ well lucky for you, you never leave your bedroom in your parents house where you still live at age 45 and you have no friends and never ever had a girlfriend. Maybe set a reminder on your phone next time and do better

anonymous 147 days ago

He thinks they put everyone in Harms Way in Chicago

anonymous 147 days ago

Do these guys sound as non threatening as they look?

anonymous 147 days ago

This dude seems genuinely nice and affable and pleasant to be around no wonder hardcore dudes have such a problem with him

anonymous 147 days ago

I, for one, am appreciative of our car care technicians out there.

anonymous 147 days ago

manufactured drama from a gay loser

anonymous 147 days ago

" Manufactured hype because of that stupid podcast" So people who discovered and went to see insert X 2004 band because headbangers ball or Outburn promoted them is also "manufactured" Your logic makes no sense. The band is selling tickets because people want to see them and isn't the goal to promote yourself to larger audiences...like a podcast which sells more tickets?

anonymous 147 days ago

Drain deez nuts.

anonymous 147 days ago

i discovered 36 crazyfists, killswitch engage, from autumn to ashes, bleeding through, as i lay dying and bury your dead on headbangers ball in 2003/04 and went to see them all / identity since. i'm 38. wasn't too late, right on time.

anonymous 147 days ago

Nobody cares about this gay shit. If you play a festival like Riot Fest, you already know what the deal is straight off the bat. Some moron falls off the stage or tries to stage dive and misses the crowd, then you've got a big ass injury on your hands. Dumb ass move by the band.

anonymous 147 days ago

Drain has really blown up. Look at their first appearance at This is Hardcore 2019 there was barely anyone watching. Now they are selling out venues and playing huge fests

anonymous 147 days ago

" anonymous 55 minutes ago Drain has really blown up. Look at their first appearance at This is Hardcore 2019 there was barely anyone watching. anonymous 147 days ago

Drain is a fun band to see. Gulch was before the pandemic but then the singer and one of the guitar players thought they were king kong bad asses all a sudden and ruined the band and they broke up

anonymous 147 days ago

Lol @ sammy cilantro. Cool band. Quit being bitches

anonymous 147 days ago

anonymous 147 days ago

Less barriers = more fun for all Don't be afraid to get on the stage with the band

anonymous 147 days ago

Chicago shows are hit and miss. Some are insane like at The Metro and the old Bottom Lounge, and some are pretty lame like The Rumble when it's outside. Biggest horseshoe pit you've ever seen. Drain brings the party at any of them

anonymous 146 days ago

" Chicago shows are hit and miss. Some are insane like at The Metro and the old Bottom Lounge, and some are pretty lame like The Rumble when it's outside. Biggest horseshoe pit you've ever seen. Drain brings the party at any of them" Metro is wack as shit. It's a place for emo bands, and other post core trash. Not a place to see a decent hardcore/punk/metalcore band. Bottom Lounge is ok although the original Bottom Lounge on Wilton was better. Shout out to Fireside Bowl and Reggie's -minus their bullshit security-.

anonymous 146 days ago

" anonymous 1 hour ago Less barriers = more fun for all Don't be afraid to get on the stage with the band" Ask the kid who's now in a wheelchair from jumping off the stage at one of The Rumble's cuz nobody caught him.

Vocalist fronted like he was a gangbanger to the wrong people. Oof. Sucks when hardcore kids who are usually pretty creative and unique have a hard on for acting like pseudo cholos or other street bacteria. Why would you want to volunteer yourself into that dead end path? Real gangsters barely make it to 40.
