Ozzfest '99 long-lost documentary 'We Sold Our Souls For Rock N' Roll' premiering in Los Angeles

We Sold Our Souls

Director Penelope Spheeris (Wayne's World, The Decline Of Western Civilization) is set to unveil her long-awaited Ozzfest '99 documentary We Sold Our Souls For Rock 'N' Roll in Los Angeles next week. Initially, the documentary encountered several setbacks, with legal issues complicating its release, despite a series of successful screenings at film festivals.

The 1999 Ozzfest boasted a legendary lineup featuring Black Sabbath, Slayer, Deftones, System Of A Down, and Slipknot (full lineup below). The documentary, produced under the watchful eye of Sharon Osbourne, wife, and manager of Ozzy Osbourne, offers an unfiltered portrayal of a pivotal time in heavy metal music history.

The lineup for Ozzfest '99:

Main stage

Black Sabbath
Rob Zombie
Deftones
Slayer
Primus ft Buckethead
System of a Down
Godsmack

Second stage

Drain STH
Fear Factory
Static-X
Hed PE
Pushmonkey
Slipknot
Puya
Flashpoint
Apartment 26

Scheduled to be screened at the David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles, CA on August 18, tickets for this exclusive screening can be obtained through the official website of the Academy Museum.

Probably still better than any Sound & Fury in the last ten years.

I was practically humping some pretty decently hot babe at an OZZFest back in the day. We were smashed up front waiting for Soulfly to come on and there was no where else to move besides into her crack. Good times.

Penelope has been trying to release this for two decades and it was blocked by Sharon and was going to premier it anyways. Sharon agreed not to sue her if she only did it for this one-off

I've seen this movie. The Slipknot and Slayer parts are cool. Static X gets their bus repossessed.

Back when Corey Taylor pretty much had full-body seizures on stage yelling a bunch of incoherent word vomit out his mask hole that was full of actual vomit.

Ozzfest was wild in the beginning. I think it was 98 and the second stage had Melvins and SOAD. The main stage was mostly shit but I got to see lesbos do the nasty. The world was a better place before liberal progress.

Are we supposed to lie to ourselves and pretend that Ozzfest '99 was a monumental event in music history?
