Dave Lombardo to sit out Testament 2023 tours; focus on Mr. Bungle, Empire State Bastard, and more

Dave Lombardo

Drummer Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross) has announced that he will be taking a break from Testament's touring for the remainder of 2023. Lombardo revealed to Blabbermouth that he will be focusing on other musical projects, including Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits, Mr. Bungle, Empire State Bastard, and Satanic Planet.

Speaking about his priorities for the year, Lombardo stated:

My focus is on Bungle... Empire State Bastard... and Satanic Planet. Instead of doing live shows, I really like to just be more on the production and songwriting side with them.

Regarding his future with Testament, Lombardo stated that he was unsure due to his commitments to other bands.

I can't guarantee anything because of my commitments. The relationship is good. The doors are open. The communication is there.

Lombardo fulfilled his contractual commitment with Testament in 2022, but due to scheduling conflicts, he will not be joining them on their upcoming tours for 2023. It appears that drummer Chris Dovas of Seven Spires, who previously filled in for Lombardo on the band's 2022 tour leg, will be taking over Lombardo's drumming duties for Testament's forthcoming dates.

Lombardo is my favorite drummer of all time but on the Testament run, he was off time a lot and got lost on a song or two. I know he has his own feel, but those songs need the precise drumming from the records to come across well.

Retire

Lol yeah why stick with a band that tours the world & puts out killer new material regularly when you can hustle around between 3 junk bands who play a combined total of about 20 gigs per year

When I saw him with the Misfits at Banc of California stadium, holy shit. Harley Cro-Mags played as well and had Rocky George on guitar, that was fun.

It's a testament, to the talent of the United Sheet Rockers of America.

This dude was done by 1991. His return albums with Slayer were pedestrian.

he has been on tour for 30 years. give the guy a break- being on the road is tiresome and lonely. it's a young persons game.

I love Lombardo. One of the best to ever do it.

Dave's longest run, with any band, might be The Misfits.

It's a testament to his mental state with how he has bungled this empire-state sized opportunity
