Tom Hunting, drummer of Exodus, recently spoke to Radioactive MikeZ, host of 96.7 KCAL-FM's "Wired In The Empire" and the show was transcribed by Blabbermouth. He discussed his battle with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the stomach, including the discovery of a second type of cancer during preparation for surgery. Hunting underwent a total gastrectomy in July 2021.
Hunting advised others with gut problems to request an endoscopy, stating "it probably saved my ass, looking back." He also spoke about the esophageal type of cancer that was forming in the cardinal region of his stomach and causing him to lose weight and not have an appetite. He also shared how a laparoscopic procedure led to the discovery of nodules of mesothelioma on his abdomen wall.
When asked if there was a specific cause for his cancer, Hunting said the specialist told him it could have been anything, environmental or otherwise. He also discussed his post-surgery recovery, including immunotherapy.
Hunting said he wants to be there for others going through a similar experience and praised science and the people who helped him along the way. He also said the best three words he could hear during his journey was that there was "nothing to see".
