Cannibal Corpse frontman Corpsegrinder's name removed from World of Warcraft over homophobic remarks
Blizzard Entertainment has renamed a World of Warcraft character titled in honor of Cannibal Corpse vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher due to homophobic remarks he made during a 2007 interview (video below).
Fisher, an ardent WoW fan and player, was the inspiration for NPC character "Gorge the Corpsegrinder," apparently "a level 74 quest giver located at Garrosh's Landing in Borean Tundra." However, Fisher's 2007 interview recently resurfaced, reigniting calls (such as this) for Blizzard to strip Fisher of the honor. As such, "Gorge the Corpsegrinder" has now been renamed "Annihilator Grek'lor."
The move comes as Blizzard and its parent company, Activision Blizzard, face a lawsuit filed by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing in which they're accused of fostering a workplace rife with sexual harassment, discrimination, and misconduct.
For his part, Fisher has yet to publicly address the controversy.
