Dookie wasnt a sell out. It sounded pretty much just like Kerplunk.

They may've bought their way in but that band is still a punk rock band. I've seen them live 5 times. I know. Got tickets for their Chicago show

I think the "sell out" reputation was built on Nimrod. And that's ok. Good album

no the sell out thing was definitely about Dookie, if you remember. signing to a major label was a big deal at the time. they were ostracized
BULLHEAD 7/24/2021 6:20:59 PM
like for the maximumrocknroll and gilman street types it was a big deal, at least. and then 16 year old middle class kids in wisconsin were writing songs about how bad they were for selling out like they knew anything about anything

True but f*ck gillman. GD played there within the last few years because the venue itself was losing its identify. They've always been about the ethics
BULLHEAD 7/24/2021 6:25:11 PM
but they definitely cultivated their success naturally and independently. Lookout Records generally could not press enough of their albums because so many people wanted to buy them. they had to go to a major

I may post more solo stuff soon. Xander loved the raw ambience and recording of it. I write folk. Not dumb punk folk. But my vocal style is def influenced by BJ and Mercury.
I think belmont even said it was ok but lol'd at what I recorded it on.

I think you guys don't understand good rock music. I'm listening to a non GD song that's a f*cking opus

Yeah I'm just saying in terms of sound they didn't sell out on Dookie. Same with Nirvana Nevermind. They just hit at the right time for mass audiences to find.
