Our score 4

This is the third release from Whitechapel, one of the biggest names in the "deathcore" genre today, meaning whatever they put out is what 16 year-olds in bands everywhere will be copying. So if this album is the new standard for deathcore, the genre is fizzling out just as fast as all the haters said it would. I actually enjoyed this band's previous release, This Is Exile. I was hoping Whitechapel would step it up even more this time around and take deathcore somewhere new, maybe silence a few critics and show that they can progress as musicians. Nope. I'm not saying that This Is Exile was record of the year when it came out, but almost all of the things that made it a decent release are gone in New Era Of Corruption. Gone is any sign of intelligent guitar work. On nearly every track, it seems as though the three-guitarist army of Whitechapel never leaves the first four frets. Solos are few and far between, or at least it feels that way when they only last about 10 seconds, before returning to more formulaic deathcore. To be fair, there are a few decent riffs on this album, but not nearly enough to make the guitars anything but typical. The lyrics are also a step down from This Is Exile, which wasn't that mind-blowing, but was at least based around an interesting concept. The song titles alone ("Murder Sermon," "End of Flesh," "Necromechanical") seem completely uninspired. The songs use the same old recycled deathcore subjects: extinction, hate of religion, human weakness... I get the feeling that I've heard these lyrics more than a few times before. Though he doesn't seem to be able to bring any interesting lyrics to the table, vocalist Phil Bozeman actually does have some fairly impressive vocal talent. His contributions may honestly be the strongest part of the album. Production wise, A New Era Of Corruption sounds better than the past two releases. The three-guitarist thing has never really impressed me, but at least you can hear a bit more definition between parts this time around. As with their live show, the bass is almost completely absent. No surprises there. Meanwhile, the drums are extremely clear, but as with many deathcore releases, sound as if they are computer programmed for maximum clarity. Really though, the production is fairly solid and at least doesn't detract from the album. Bottom Line: Though they lead the pack in modern deathcore, Whitechapel seems to be stuck in the endless chugging and blast-beats that have been the staples of the genre for far too long. The main defense that deathcore fans have is that the genre is new and must be given time to mature. Unfortunately, Whitechapel shows here that any progression will likely be a long time coming.

perfect review.

silly tits magillacutty_ 7/4/2010 12:09:45 PM

yeah lambgoat obviously isn't a fan of deathcore. so in order to show utter coolness they berate a whitechapel record. of course it isn't any good. but why review it other than just attempting to be cool or hip. this site is a f*cking joke.

Noveltycross_ 7/4/2010 12:19:46 PM

Nice review, all you deathcore idiots need to realize that everyone of your bands sound alike. very alike. The only difference between these bands are the DNA code of the band members. Please someone kill their ego

6StringIbanez_ 7/4/2010 12:41:30 PM

What should they progress to? Death Metal? Unfortunately there are very few Death Metal bands that are doing anything original or remotely different from the rest of the genre. If you aren't Immolation, Decrepit Birth, Amon Amarth or Enslaved your probably just as generic as all the other bands in any genre of metal, boring.

anonymous 7/4/2010 12:59:01 PM

chino is in a song lol

yasaf_ 7/4/2010 12:59:12 PM

who in the goddamn blue f*ck is alex freilich?

dan_ 7/4/2010 1:08:53 PM

f*ck this..heavy as shit bar anything else..i like tech just as much as the next guy but that doesn't necessarily mean its good music. breeding violence and programmed to hate offer just as much as anything off of either of the previous albums. could just be a different approach to writing that didn't work out as well as the public would've hoped..

knifrevenge_ 7/4/2010 1:09:55 PM

This site bashes anything on chugs so f*ck your review.Go listen to your ORIGINAL deathmetal growling garbage..the bands that dont make money off albums..and ill listen to the cookie cutter coping bands...

Snagglepooper_ 7/4/2010 1:21:33 PM

Amon Amarth f*cking sucks.

Snogglewiper_ 7/4/2010 1:22:47 PM

Oh, and so does this cd.

Jamey Whitechapel_ 7/4/2010 2:25:13 PM

You f*cking shithead. You don't know the first thing about deathcore; we put a lot of time and effort into this CD, and it's one of the heaviest releases of the year. We better not catch you around at any shows, because if my crew sees you, you'll wish you never got out of bed that day. Oh, and to everyone who actually CARES about this record, listen up! Thanks to everybody who bought it already but for those who have not been able to find it, try TARGET, yes TARGET is stocking it for ONLY $6.99

Godfather's Master_ 7/4/2010 3:17:14 PM

I throw this record on and watch the fear in my little sissy twink slave Godfatherofsoul as I plow him into oblivion via the rear.

Godfatherofsoul_ 7/4/2010 3:44:21 PM

Whitechapel have really impressed me with this release. I find it to be a staggering return to form after the disappointment that was This is Exile. I forsee a North American tour with One Life Crew and Arghoslent in the cards.

arty_mcfarty_ 7/4/2010 4:13:13 PM

shit album.........shit review

nick_ 7/4/2010 5:10:50 PM

10/10 album gay.

4thgradecocktease_ 7/4/2010 5:25:41 PM

God this site f*cking sucks. Every review is trash.

Godfatherofsoul_ 7/4/2010 8:37:54 PM

Wow... Where to start? This record has brought me closer to brightening the eclipse that the artistic side of my brain has been experiencing as of late. Such poetic force, driven home by almost soulful crying of the instrument known so lovingly as the "guitar". 4/10? I think not, 9/10 perhaps due to the sheer love my life now encompasses, a direct result of these hard working, integrity filled, musicians known as White Chapel. Bravo, to all, just...Bravo.. as I shed a tear

Steve_ 7/4/2010 9:24:08 PM

God I just love reading album reviews from a guy who obviously has a personal grudge against the band. YOU ARE PATHETIC.

HBDad_ 7/4/2010 9:35:57 PM

Funny, I though this was easily the best deathcore album ever recorded or close to. The review is a f*cking joke by someone obviously wanting to be cool by refusing to acknowledge t. To the poster pretending to be from Whitechapel, Tower and Virgin have been gone for years and ONLY have a web presence!

MockTheCross_ 7/4/2010 9:43:58 PM

Alex, please never review again. Thank You.

TheAwfulDin_ 7/5/2010 12:30:08 AM

macgyver_ 7/5/2010 2:47:55 AM

cds eh, but does lambgoat ever give a cd review better than a 7? i mean really, does anyone actually base a cd buy off these joke reviewers? they need a real job

Mr. Hawking_ 7/5/2010 4:21:23 AM

Band rules. Reviewer is lame.

uhh_ 7/5/2010 4:31:57 AM

Best review I've ever read on lambgoat.

Suffocating Dark_ 7/5/2010 5:01:44 AM

Worst review I've ever read on lambgoat.

DaveClinch_ 7/5/2010 7:23:57 AM

Great review, it mirrors my opinion to a T. They had a great formula going with the Exile album, from production to mixing to actual riffs. Then they decide to go to that overrated sack of shit producer and I guess decided they didnt have to write cool riffs because, well, when you're paying a producer 1K per hour, you don't have too. This album = total garbage, which is a shame.

Brutal Mosher_ 7/5/2010 12:06:57 PM

Hows does this get a 4 and Ceremony get a 7? The scenster kids in flannel, earth friendly anarcho pants and crusty vans love this site.

Hands_ 7/5/2010 1:32:14 PM

It's gotten to the point where I don't even know what's a gimmick in these comments anymore. Also: Saying this album is uninspired dross is like holing up in your bastufft during a hurricane and calling everyone you know to tell them it's raining outside.

no_ 7/5/2010 1:56:10 PM

This site bashes anything on chugs so f*ck your review.Go listen to your ORIGINAL deathmetal growling garbage..the bands that dont make money off albums..and ill listen to the cookie cutter coping bands... Wow, what a complete & utter gay. Or really, just a typical deathcore fan.

godfather_ 7/5/2010 3:06:58 PM

why i nearly bunched my knickers when i heard this bit of music came about. These chaps sound just right they do. Cant wait untill these blokes come to east anglishire.

GFOS_ 7/5/2010 7:37:21 PM

This musical entity known as "White Chapel" has become increasingly erotic to me. The core of death or so to speak "Death Core" sends almost electric sensations flying through my jittery spine. Like that lonely beach ball slapping so lovingly against that open ocean tide. I am now truly at home.

Alex Freibitch_ 7/5/2010 7:39:14 PM

I was kidding, this record rules.

anonymous 7/5/2010 10:09:02 PM

time to mature?? hahahahah. yeah, cuz remember how long it took for punk to become good? oh wait. OR ANY OTHER GENRE EVER. deathcore = gays

xxWEEDxx_ 7/5/2010 10:10:56 PM

even without listening to this album, I know this review is 100% spot on.

TheyLeftInBodyBags_ 7/5/2010 11:53:10 PM

Wow genres genres genres everybody is so caught up labeling bands they don't actually listen to the music this f*cking artard probably listened to the album once thru hey lambgoat if u want someone that actually loves metal as a whole and actually understands musicianship to review your metal albums message me at

anonymous 7/6/2010 1:58:13 AM

honestly, why even review this? i don't need lambgoat's help to figure out that the new whitechapel album sucks.

chris_ 7/6/2010 2:56:18 AM

yeah this record blows, but I just didn't like this review for some reason.. It just came off a little biased and immature

godgrinder_ 7/6/2010 11:46:09 AM

I liked the songs but the production is f*cking terrible.

j.c._ 7/7/2010 2:44:00 PM

this review is 100% accurate. whitechaples first two releases were pretty good, and this album is a dumbed down version of this is exile. i honestly heard the same breakdowns on this album, that was on this is exile, along with the same recycled drum parts, and chugs LOL. I really thought they'd actually put out a DM album but no. The only cool thing about this album is Chino's guest appearance.

Jake Freeman_ 7/7/2010 4:11:49 PM

f*ck deathcore. When did what genre a band falls into become more important than the music they make? gays. I loved this album. Hell, I found it better than This Is Exile and that's one of my favorite metal albums ever.

DetJohnKimble_ 7/7/2010 5:52:06 PM

Love this band, Don't love this CD. Maybe it will grow on me, but idk. Also, is it just me or does every single member of this band have a name that seems too rockstar-ish to be real? Alex Wade Ben Savage Phil Bozeman Zach Householder Gabe Crisp Kevin Lane... Just saying.

xnotsoedgex_ 7/8/2010 4:41:54 PM

gays are pissed!

bobonmynob_ 7/8/2010 7:03:51 PM

This band is terribad.

edgegein_ 7/8/2010 7:24:35 PM

I like turtles.

Collin_ 7/8/2010 10:15:18 PM

Shit reveiw, the kid that wrote this doesn't know shit, and not because of what he rated the CD, I don't care at all. What IS retarded though is reading through five paragraphs of the dude dissing chugging with really no other insight. Alright man, we f*ckin' get it. Next.

vengeance973_ 7/8/2010 10:58:48 PM

Shit Band, Shit Album, cut and paste drums!

bkr_ 7/12/2010 12:42:24 PM

guns.razors.knives. (f*ck wit me)

carsonslovak_ 7/13/2010 2:38:29 PM

hey, i actually think this band is decent. i actually produce and make this kind of music. i guess that's why no one goes to my shows anymore. maybe metalcore and deathcore really is dying out.

Dayman_ 7/16/2010 12:42:36 AM

big_metal_al_ 7/23/2010 5:04:31 AM

Whitechapel has always sucked you f*cking idiots. "lead the pack in modern deathcore"? Are you a gay hipster like the rest? Wow: 1. Way to jump on the bandwagon, 2. Modern deathcore is called "deathcore" or "gaycore" 3. If anything TAS leads the "modern deathcore" scene because they started the trend.

Impending Douche_ 7/25/2010 11:32:49 AM

Whitechapel is amazing. The new album is great work! Big al, did u really just say that TAS is leading the Deathcore genre?.... You do know there needs to be a hint of death to say your deathcore... TAS is nothing close to Death. No blasts, etc. You sure know your metal...

DP_ 8/31/2010 3:44:02 PM

This reviewer is a f*cking moron

carlsagan_ 9/1/2011 2:42:41 PM

good album. i hated their previous records cause it sounded like total bullshat put together in like an hour. but this cd acutally flows and sounds good. bad lyrics? nahh the lyrics are much better than the previous cds. copy and pasted drums? nah cause they have studio footy of the drummer physically recording the songs. lolz. this alex guy needs to shoot himself. old school death metal bands suck. PERIOD. death metal bands these days learned from the mistakes of old school death metal and they

anonymous 7/23/2012 4:12:39 PM

I agree with some of the reviewers ideas. For the most part i enjoy whitechapel, but this album lacked imagination. It was a short listen. That's my opinion anyway.
