"We are the unforgiven who never gave a fuck. Time has passed us by, hard fucking luck. Decaying bones and skin; we walk this city to our death. Punishing the pavement through our final rotting breath." So states the first few lines from the title track of the incredible new EP from Sacramento, CA hardcore act Trash Talk. Eleven cuts in about as many minutes is what listeners will get here, each filled with some of the most crushing riffs and angry lyrics likely to appear on any album this year and for some time to come.
With a sound derived from classic groups like Negative Approach, Infest and Cro-Mags, as well as modern outfits such as Panic, Outbreak and American Nightmare, this four piece plays it fast and furious and never lets up on the all too short duration of this disc. The opener "FYRA" builds from subtle rumble to full on rage in no time before segueing nicely into "Worthless Nights." Probably my favorite moment on the album is the frantic, sing-along approved breakdown of "Walking Disease," though there are some choice portions in "Destroy," "Just Die" and "Sacramento Is Dead" as well. The majority of songs don't go over sixty seconds and it works to the band's advantage, although the closing number "Pain In Vain" shows a little more experimentation and excess, but TT stays on point regardless and it's a nice way to wrap things up.
The recording, by Zack Ohren at Castle Ultimate, is outstanding as usual, while quality artwork is furnished by Tyler Densley.
Bottom Line: Trash Talk has relocated a few times since the recording of "Walking Disease," for a time residing in the Seattle and currently playing out of Los Angeles. No matter where they end up though, as permanent residents or touring denizens, it's for sure they are going to leave their mark with copious amounts of blood, sweat, and pure fucking evil.
