Few bands have benefited quite as much from the recent popularity of mosh-y metalcore as Bleeding Through. Thanks to increasingly popular venues for heavy music, like Headbanger's Ball and Ozzfest, Bleeding Through and many others have quickly become big names among the teenage eyeliner-wearing crowd. The test that many legitimate underground fans put them to is the record they make after they've had a taste of success. While a band like Lamb of God remained virtually unchanged and stayed true to their original vision, Eighteen Visions, No Warning and Avenged Sevenfold all abandoned their musical pasts in a grab at higher record sales. Orange County's Bleeding Through find themselves in a great position to please everyone, as they remain on Trustkill (still technically an independent label) and didn't have to alter their sound too much to guarantee commercial success. While certainly not an artistic leap forward for the band, The Truth is undoubtedly an ingenious career move. Hard-edged and hook-laden, this record could elevate Bleeding Through to the level of Killswitch Engage or Hatebreed, bands who have released two records in the span of time that Bleeding Through has released four. I'm not saying I love this record, but there is no doubt in my mind that Bleeding Through achieved everything they wanted to and in that sense, the record is definitely a success. Produced by former Anthrax guitarist and Scrap 60 production team member Rob Caggiano (Cradle of Filth, A Life Once Lost, Dry Kill Logic), the recording possesses a potentially risky rawness that, thankfully for the band, never detracts from its accessibility. From the opening riff of "For Love And Failing," which features guest vocals from Soilent Green's Ben Falgoust, Bleeding Through make it clear that all melodic choruses and cheesy keyboard lines aside, they haven't forgotten how to play metal. There isn't a riff on this record I haven't heard before, but the fact that they've managed to write these lines into possible hit songs is the real accomplishment. "Kill To Believe" channels Slayer, Pantera and Cannibal Corpse before doing a complete 180 with one of the record's catchiest choruses. If you want to get the gist of this record in about ten minutes, listen to the trio of "Dearly Departed," "Line In The Sand," and "She's Gone." The first begins with a verse tailor-made for headbanging before leading into an anthemic chorus featuring guest vocals from Tiger Army's Nick 13, one of the album's most pleasant surprises. Finish it out with a couple of mosh parts and you get the idea. "Line In The Sand" is the album's only real miss, a pathetic attempt at balladry that ends up sounding like Type O Negative meets Avenged Sevenfold. It's full of cheesy keyboards, cheesier guitar solos and lyrics about being ugly; In short, it's a fat mall-goth chick's wet dream. The reason these songs work in succession though, is that "She's Gone" is a minute and a half of thrashy goodness and keyboard schlock that brings it all back home. Whenever Bleeding Through makes a misstep, they recover quickly and the listening experience rarely suffers because of it. Much like the record's packaging, which hides an obscenely gory picture behind an innocently plain sleeve, Bleeding Through's musical core is unquestionably heavy, hiding at times beneath commercially safe melodies. Bottom Line: As a longtime fan of hardcore and metal, it's easy to take out your aggression on bands like Bleeding Through, whose success has led to thousands of moronic androgynous pseudo-hardcore kids poorly bedroom-moshing across the nation and invading large club shows that would've once taken place in someone's basement, but it's just not fair. The Truth is a well-written, relatively adventurous record from a band with a legitimate place in metalcore. Expect to see Bleeding Through's star rise quickly in the next year.

beard_ 1/11/2006 2:23:29 PM

cory went out on a limb with this one. keep your fingers crossed

zach_ 1/11/2006 2:42:26 PM

i listened to the first song, then deleted it. what a horrible f*cking band

..._ 1/11/2006 2:51:04 PM

Horrible band, and does anybody else notice that the reviewer is basically saying "OMG OMG I LOVE BLEEDING THROUGH SO MUCH" and yet he gives them a 6/10

anonymous 1/11/2006 2:51:57 PM

Absolutely no cred as a reviewer

surfjam_ 1/11/2006 2:59:58 PM

you gave nearly no justification as to why you gave your rating

xTomWaitsx_ 1/11/2006 3:03:51 PM

It's so sad to see low Bleeding Through have stooped into the whole goth fashioncore scene. The singing parts, come on guys. They were weak to begin with and now they're making Atreyu look good, which is as sarcastic as I can get cuz Atreyu is worse than CrazyTown.

anonymous 1/11/2006 3:06:34 PM

good review. he's right about everything.

mefuckyeah_ 1/11/2006 3:08:25 PM

Eh, Half the album is really good, Half is terrible so, yeah 6/10 is about right

anonymous 1/11/2006 3:09:36 PM

you gave nearly no justification as to why you gave your rating........... what? read much?

nick larusso_ 1/11/2006 3:15:51 PM

shit, crap, wank

davefons_ 1/11/2006 3:15:56 PM

good review, cory. I'll probably try to hear this, but I wouldn't buy it.

xdivisivex_ 1/11/2006 3:18:09 PM

I would give this album a 7, better then TLTM but not as good as PoG

mike_ 1/11/2006 4:16:42 PM

I just pinched a loaf and it smells better than this nucore album

rainbowsatan6_ 1/11/2006 4:32:51 PM

Just bought the record today and its not that bad. Its nothing you can't hear on they're last record. They're not breaking any new grounds. "In short, it's a fat mall-goth chick's wet dream". That pretty much sums up the whole record.

whitelambpowergoat_ 1/11/2006 5:13:15 PM

pure utter shit

grindmyass_ 1/11/2006 5:16:00 PM

Pretty much sits between TILTIM and PoG, TILTIM being a 4/10 record and PoG being an 8/10. Makes sense.

Kanye West_ 1/11/2006 5:25:25 PM

Corey doesn't care about writing good reviews. -6/10

littlemac_ 1/11/2006 5:51:49 PM

do you like the album, but want to penalize it because shitty kids like it? or do you dislike the album, and want to praise it because they at least didn't totally change their sound and cover up their shortcomings with redeeming parts? the lambgoat 10point system is awful.

Mike_ 1/11/2006 6:49:51 PM

I don't wear eye-liner but I still like this album.

anonymous 1/11/2006 6:50:24 PM

youth krew black metal haha

dillongiedt_ 1/11/2006 6:51:36 PM

zero_x_potential_ 1/11/2006 8:12:36 PM

The clean vocals are a little on this one, but it's still a decent CD. Probably their worst CD (thanks to that shitty ballad), but still not bad.

Xithyl_ 1/11/2006 8:25:51 PM

You surprised me a lot with this review. Well done.

Cory_ 1/11/2006 8:32:06 PM

i should've known being fair and honest would cause an uproar.

hxcobd_ 1/11/2006 8:50:39 PM

this band rocks.

hxcobd_ 1/11/2006 9:43:47 PM

ahahahah, f*ck my gimmick

hxcobd_ 1/11/2006 9:45:26 PM

Great f*cking band!!!

ipoopedinyourcloset_ 1/11/2006 9:45:39 PM

Good review, though the review itself sounds like it should have scored higher. At first listen, I was disappointed, but after a few more it's already grown on me. Yes, it's nothing extremely original. The people that dog on bands like this because they wear make up and shit are worse than the ones who like them for it. Image means shit to me; I don't give a f*ck if they wear skirts. It shouldn't matter to any of you either.

SHATTINGTON_BEAR_ 1/11/2006 9:49:39 PM

this band is really good

keepthechange_ 1/11/2006 11:30:25 PM

f*cking orange county c-ckworshipers

anonymous 1/12/2006 2:04:38 AM

this cd is okay, i gotta say i liked the review.... i thought it was just right .... but i give this cd a 4/10 .... f*cken brandon you can't sing live ... so don't try it on this cd....." line in the sand" has to be the wrost song i have ever heard from "BL" .... the keybords do sux on this ablum, we need molly back. good thing marta is cute . (haha) seriously guys ( bleeding through ) what the f*cke where you thinking when you wrote this cd ???? and this song ( line in the sand ) man, you guys

anonymous 1/12/2006 2:06:45 AM

i gotta say, i like the sampler cd better than, the new bleeding through cd ..... hahhaahhh

riz from hong kong_ 1/12/2006 4:06:17 AM

in terms of sound etc...i think this album sounds a lot better with the overall production sounding f*cking awesome. the drums - damn, they sound SO good on this record. i like what they're trying to do and respect that they're trying to reach a bigger audience. but even brandon admits on the Bleeding Through LIVE DVD that he's not a good singer and if you seen the live video's you can tell he can't actually sing melodies. so why attempt to do so much singing on this album? 2 songs in particu

Scott Ian_ 1/12/2006 7:20:37 AM

I found it boring. Disappointing. This is love was boring too. They kinda lost their edge after the second record. If you can even count it as a second record it had about more than half of the songs off the first record.

Selvin_ 1/12/2006 7:51:24 AM

6/10 ?!?! wtf

TheReapersSon_ 1/12/2006 8:49:13 AM

Everyone is just upset because the review hits on accurate points and still manages to validate its score, whether gays who can't comprehend what they read in any way BUT proper can understand that fact or not. Oh, and the fact that it's a Cory review doesn't help matters much either. Decent rearysis, accurate rating. End of story.

mydixiewrecked_ 1/12/2006 9:08:11 AM

"It's full of cheesy keyboards, cheesier guitar solos and lyrics about being ugly; In short, it's a fat mall-goth chick's wet dream" that made me chuckle

thetwothree_ 1/12/2006 9:51:21 AM

why only a 6? this album is awesome top to bottom. the only thing i could say against it is that the entire album seems to be about the same thing, heartache....but then again, who can't relate to that??!!??

mike_ 1/12/2006 11:30:20 AM

This band attracts the worst kinds of fans...look at their myspace...every second comment is "omg best death metl band evEr!!!11"

MrWong_ 1/12/2006 12:56:46 PM

First album was good, second was worse, and this is the worst of them all.

dave_ 1/12/2006 1:50:48 PM

It took me about a year or so after I bought "This is love..", to really sit and listen to it. And with this one.. i'm not interested at all. Not saying its bad or good, just not my thing.

Concubine-_ 1/12/2006 11:37:00 PM

This is shit compared to portrait.

Coley Thrash_ 1/13/2006 9:26:40 AM

I am listening to the first track and I am very impressed. Even weaker clean vocals but the heaviest most technical shit they've done so far. And for the record, Lamb of God completely changed their sound. Sold out worse than Avenged Sevenfold. And Lamb of God is one of my favorite bands ever, so that means something.

anonymous 1/13/2006 9:30:47 PM

"It's full of cheesy keyboards, cheesier guitar solos and lyrics about being ugly; In short, it's a fat mall-goth chick's wet dream" that made me chuckle again proving the people only listen to music for the image they want..sck a dck you f*cksack

mefuckyeah_ 1/13/2006 11:48:35 PM

james_ 1/14/2006 1:34:52 AM

decent record, shit reviewer. not because of whether or not i agree with anything he says, but because he's really just a terrible reviewer.

david_ 1/15/2006 1:40:43 AM

havent heard the album, but the review was well done.

Wes Mantooth_ 1/15/2006 11:33:15 AM

I think Bleeding Through has actually cleaned their music and matured since their last album. Although the riffs are nothing spectacular they made everything work and that is what counts. And you can't say the band sucks because this is a review for the album not the band. Grow up people and learn to enjoy music not the label.

anonymous 1/15/2006 8:06:05 PM

did anyone listen to this whole record? not even comparable to good music in any way. Just because there are fast parts doesn't make it good. as i lay dying and all of the other trendy metalcore is way better than this. not even comparable this is so bad

automated dancing shoes_ 1/15/2006 8:53:51 PM

Hi, i'm here for the bleeding through bashing party. I have Xs on my hands, thats cool, right? Awesome. *clears throat* um....f*ck Bleeding Through!

xweaverx_ 1/17/2006 10:11:28 AM

Cory seems to have hit the nail right on the head with this review. Basically, from what I read within this review, he is saying that this album is no better than love lost in a hail of gunfire, but they have managed not to totally sell out like other trendy bands such as themselves. I would have given this album a 6/10 as well because I am just not a big fan of Bleeding Through and never have been a fan. Oh, and about the whole "Fat goth mall chick" comments involving Bleeding Through, why don'

xweaverx_ 1/17/2006 10:16:21 AM

Oh wait, I meant "This is love, this is muderous"

anonymous 1/17/2006 1:05:10 PM

Portrait was so good. I listened to This Is Love about 5 times total and I listened to the first two songs on this and decided to just listen to Portait instead. I'm wondering if I'll even give The Truth another chance.

sensoryamusia_ 1/17/2006 2:52:46 PM

i have a way to end the debate: youre all shirtlifters.

sensoryamusia_ 1/17/2006 2:54:36 PM

oh and () is a chickenhawk.

enemy2casualty_ 1/17/2006 4:10:45 PM

it's meh. i hate the one song that sounds like It Dies Today's last album - poppy, sappy chorus mixed with breakdowns. the first song is not bad. production value is really good.

enemy2casualty_ 1/18/2006 9:43:40 AM

oh yeah, and the band should take away the singer's pen and never give it back. His lyrics are so bad, it's painful to listen. I kinda wish they were indecipherable.

anonymous 1/18/2006 3:50:59 PM

it takes a four year old to write these lyrics

anonymous 1/18/2006 3:53:07 PM

if you rate this a 6/10 then you didn't really listen to it. 6/10 is good for lambgoat. even without being a lambgoat hater this is 2/10

anonymous 1/18/2006 3:53:23 PM

if you rate this a 6/10 then you didn't really listen to it. 6/10 is good for lambgoat. even without being a lambgoat hater this is 2/10

Omar Landa_ 1/21/2006 9:06:05 PM

this is a mature and heartfelt album its a side of Bleeding Through that shows there maturity musically and lyrically......i give a 10 its a good album everyone is just used to listening to This is Love, this is Murderous......but give it another week and it will blow everyone away.....

conduit_ 1/28/2006 10:02:32 AM

the keyboards on this album sound like the members of 2 unlimited formed a cradle of filth cover band. the album would be a 6/10 without them, with them its a -1000000/10

DenyThisFlesh_ 2/9/2006 9:17:28 AM

I agree with the review. It's a decent album, but nothing spectacular. The choruses are not very good and the keyboards aren't as good, but it's not a bad album. I would listen to This is Love, This is Murderous more than this. Did anyone else think Brandan's vocals are kind of weak on this one?

simon_ 2/11/2006 11:56:55 AM

'your all shirtlifter' HELL YES! someone else knows that term!!!and as for BL --- they aint new or original but you can still dance to em at metalfest - passes the time, as for the 'goth kids' i dont understand all the hate i barely even seen the wannabe's at shows anymore cause i choose not too

brian_ 3/30/2006 1:12:53 PM

good album, much better than their other material. get rid of that ballad crap though. and this review did not match the rating.

Jonas_ 3/31/2006 12:57:30 AM

If these guys are sellouts etc etc.... Guess what? They can be... Their Famous and you guys are'nt..They can Write,Play,Sing what ever the f*ck they want...And their still BIG....And what brandon cant sing live? Youre off your nut, ive seen them live twice now and he blew me the f*ck away..And he was also nice enough to chat to me before and after the shows...If you could see my finger at the screen, thats to all you homos out there that whine and carry on about bands that are actually talented a

throwbreedengage10_ 12/17/2006 9:56:25 PM

this is a good album the breakdowns are tight the riffs are even the melodic shit here and there, they've changed a tince big deal its ot like they pulled a f*cking avenge and went all g nr wanna be , these guys still keep there metalcore sound its good. 9/10

xBBBx_ 1/12/2007 3:57:06 PM

Awesome and wicked new album. Everything is so much more produced.
