I'm not really sure how Terror's One With The Underdogs, one of the biggest hardcore releases of 2004 managed to go this long without being reviewed. I know for me personally, this was one of the releases I was anticipating most highly and despite the fact that this year saw the release of some tremendous albums, this record holds a relatively high place among the best records released this year. Anyone who calls themselves a fan of real hardcore understands how Terror quickly rose to become one of the most universally appreciated bands in the business. A combination of constant touring, strong demo recordings and street cred helped get the name out there and the release of their first EP on Bridge Nine Records proved that they were a force ot be reckoned with. That's why it came as a shock to some that Terror decided to release their follow up with Trustkill Records, a label that seems to have been venturing further and further from traditional hardcore in recent years. While it is tempting to make comparisons for those who haven't heard Terror, all you really need to know is that they play hardcore the only way it should ever be played: fast, loud and angry. Scott Vogel's vocal stylings should sound incredibly familiar to any fans of Buried Alive or Despair, as he fronted both of these influential bands. The vocals of Freddy Madball, Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed, Ezac of Skarhead and Cory of Internal Affairs all enhance the songs that they appear on, and also give an added sense of continuity within hardcore. Terror, in their short existence, already seem to have influenced much of the new wave of streamlined, no-frills hardcore that has become so prevalent in the last two years. It's not necessarily that they did it first or even that the idea is so revolutionary, but they just do it better than just about anyone else. Where some bands have that one song that becomes their signature, Terror's songs are almost uniformly solid. I've listened to this disc countless times, and despite the frequent highlights, I can't identify a "low" point song-wise. Although many of the songs themselves tread familiar lyrical ground, I do have to commend Vogel on what seems to be an effort to minimize unnecessary profanity. The word "fuck" still pops up every now and then, but the overall strength of the lyrics has grown so much that it actually seems to carry some meaning here, as opposed to on "Lowest of the Low" where it seemed to be a convenient filler word. These lyrics aren't necessarily prize-winning poetry, but they really don't need to be. The sentiments here often resemble some of the pithy lyrics I have often criticized in hardcore records, but it's hard to argue with the sort of devotion these guys have shown, particularly Vogel and current guitarist Frank Novinec of Ringworm. When you've been around as long as these guys, you can call bullshit on the trend-jumpers and tout your own ability to stay true. Lots of bands talk big about hardcore; these guys have lived it for over a decade. The place where One With The Underdogs didn't live up to Lowest of the Low for me was in the overall sound and production of the record. While the lyrics and songs themselves were much stronger, the record sounds a little thin compared to their previous record. While I'm personally of the opinion that no one can capture low end in a metal or hardcore record quite like Bill Korecky, the band and Paul Miner have still done a good job here. It's not bad by any means -- just slightly less powerful. I'm not sure I really "get" the concept of the artwork, but it looks pretty damn cool and the "vinyl" CD was a fun, albeit goofy, bonus. Bottom Line: I'm sick of hearing people say Terror are over-rated. While there were hardcore records I've liked better this year, I can't really say that there is a hardcore band currently playing that's any better. One With The Underdogs is a powerhouse hardcore record by a band that is committed to making great music, and it shows in every record and live performance I've ever witnessed. These songs will make you want to spinkick the douchebag in his girlfriend's jeans in the face, and these lyrics will inspire you to mosh, headwalk and fingerpoint. This is hardcore done right.

ok this is shit, seriously, i know it's your opinion dude. but common, buried alive was f*cking amazing. this new terror cd is so over produced, when i heard it, i laughed so hard cause it was terrible. you cannot produce hardcore like this, seriously i don't know what people are thinking by listening to this band, if you wanna hear a better version of terror just listen to BURIED ALIVE

Yurheda_ 11/17/2004 3:30:33 PM

This love songs to your friends shit has got to stop. Horrible.

busta_ 11/17/2004 3:30:36 PM

overproduced? would you rather it be recorded in a bathroom?

deadwithfear_ 11/17/2004 3:31:08 PM

OVERRATED. just listen to buried alive instead.

jaded mastodon fan_ 11/17/2004 3:35:11 PM

Terror gets a better rating than Mastodon. Maybe Mastodon should dumb down there music, throw in some breakdowns, say "f*ck" every other word, and talk constantly about "the scene". That would get them a better rating on Lambgoat.

roger_ 11/17/2004 3:51:48 PM

why must everyone suck Mastodon's dck? They aren't that good.

you are all gay, fags_ 11/17/2004 3:56:10 PM

mastodon sucks, buried alive were mediocre, terror is mediocre. the only song on this cd worth discussing is not this time.

turn_coat_ 11/17/2004 4:23:51 PM

an 8!?!? i was expecting for this record to get crucified.

Jeff_ 11/17/2004 4:36:08 PM

This record is garbage, they ARE overrated, and the CD is boring as hell. I was mad i even spent time downloading it when i couldve downloaded something better.

Mikey216_ 11/17/2004 4:36:11 PM

It's EZEC. Get your facts right.

Jeff (continued)_ 11/17/2004 4:39:16 PM

Did i also neglect to mention there are now 2 bands on trustkill with song titles named Less Than Zero. GAY. Come up with better song titles. Mastodon IS better.

theoneandonly_ 11/17/2004 5:20:31 PM

terror is horrid...i saw them at palladium right about when they firsat were a band....vogel is ok when he gives speaches...i havent heard this record but already know what it sounds like...i like strife, AN, and a few other straight hc acts...terror is caca though...i am not a tough guy and i dont like over produced hardcore...

fuk_ 11/17/2004 5:34:06 PM

Jesus, Cory. Take a f*cking music appreciation course. Better yet--learn to play an instrument. Your simpleton ears deceive you.

SexyMetalKarma_ 11/17/2004 6:36:51 PM

1. when was trustkill ever a "traditional hardcore" label? i dont recall them ever having a roster similar to a bridge 9 roster ever in history. 2. terror is ok. nothing fancy. nothing rave worthy. just a straight foward hardcore band that I would rather listen over Bane. 3. Mastadons drummer is amazing. Other than that, I really don't think they are anything special. I'd rather watch Today Is The Day live 10x more.

Doogie_ 11/17/2004 7:11:53 PM

gays you would all die at a terror show, goodbye

Murph_ 11/17/2004 7:22:44 PM

This band is tough. The songs are straightforward hardcore. If you don't like that style, you don't like what Terror is doing. Straight up. If you guys care THAT much that any band gets a review that you disagree with, start your own f*cking band, or shut the f*ck up. If you haven't done hard time in a van, your opinion is for shit.

ubooze_ulsoe_ 11/17/2004 7:23:15 PM

littlemac_ 11/17/2004 8:23:04 PM

anyone who refers to buried alive as anything but f*cking spectacular is f*cking gay. buried alive f*cking rules, they are one of the best hardcore bands of the past 5 years if not the best and i don't care if OWTU is a 10/10, it doesn't suck the c-ck of the death of your perfect world you're worthless as you rot (gayz)

Terror = Default tough guy hardcore band #17203824

PIG_DESTROYER_ 11/17/2004 11:20:24 PM

terror f*cking blows. i still cant understand how people who like complicated intricate music with millions of different parts and bands who try their asses off to be original can still like terror. They are sooo boring, so unoriginal, and even for that kind of music, which i can appreciate at times, they arent even that good. they arent that agressive, they arent that heavy. boooooring. and of course cory loved it everyone- terror is a band that you are supposed to like. thus, it had to get a g

Let's get something straight. If a hardcore record is a good HARDCORE record, I rate it as such. If a metal record is a good METAL record, I rate it as such. Quite frankly, if we're talking about musicianship and songwriting ability, no records that ever come out could live up to some of the amazing records that have been released. As I'm trying personally to keep everything relative, I have to give credit where credit is due. I have followed Terror from the release of their demo and have seen t

omgomg_ 11/18/2004 3:11:22 AM

if you don't like terror, you don't like hardcore; go listen to atreyu and talk about how you don't like converge either, because they're too "popular."

Jeff_ 11/18/2004 12:18:55 PM

atreyu has sold more records than converge. So how can people say they dont like converge because they are "popular" and not atreyu? Converge wasnt on Ozzfest. Converge didnt debut on the top 50 of the billboard charts. Converge didnt sell over 120,000 units of their debut. That comment made no sense. And no i'm not defending atreyu or converge or terror. I'm simply stating the fact.

ThatHxCGuy_ 11/18/2004 12:52:47 PM

Good album, great hardcore. Compared to most other hardcore, it is an 8, and the rating is fair. Compared against music as a's a 5 or a 6,...It's not something I'll be listening to 5 years from now, but it is something I enjoy listening to now.

die x 3_ 11/18/2004 3:48:29 PM

shit band. despair was the shit

omgomg_ 11/18/2004 4:02:11 PM

jeff, you completly missed the point, you moron.

Murph_ 11/18/2004 4:41:22 PM

Cory was correct. This album is NOT A METAL ALBUM. That's like comparing Youth of Today and Nuclear Assault. Pointless comparisons. There's something to be said for heart and aggression beyond 'technical ability,' which is all some of you guys seem to care about. For my dollar, I'll dig on the Physical Challenge over a Dillinger clone any day.

The J man_ 11/18/2004 9:16:58 PM

bottom line: Terror f*cking sucks. lame ass simpleton hardcore gets about as much respect from me as nu-metal.

Cory_ 11/18/2004 9:26:41 PM

If you don't like hardcore, don't read the reviews. It's as simple as that.

yep_ 11/18/2004 10:43:19 PM

Good review, hating terror beacuse your a tech metal nerd is pretty retarted and cliche. Terror are no Despair or Buried Alive but they are still good for what they are.

PIG_DESTROYER_ 11/19/2004 1:10:37 AM

you know what? cory and others made a decent point. i can appreciate some true hardcore but for the most part just dont like it. i dont get why people love it so much and i think terror sucks, even in that genre. but you are right, you are rating them in comparison to other bands that sound somewhat similar, and thats fair. i dont think anything in that genre deserves more than a 5 except for maybe american nightmare, embrace today or comeback kid, but i guess all you were saying is that terror

Cory_ 11/19/2004 7:54:37 AM

I feel quite the opposite in regards to Terror. I think that it has become "cool" to hate them and say they're not good, when in fact, they are very good. I'm not a huge fan of ET or Comeback Kid, but I do see where you're coming from. At some point, it just becomes a matter of taste and I would hope that Lambgoat would have the sense to respect that these reviews are one man's opinion. I'm not trying to influence you into liking one band and not liking another. I just want to give credit to ban

whatup_ 11/22/2004 5:57:53 PM

it's blowing my mind how people can rate Despair higher then Terror. Despair is f*cking dog shit compared to Terror, and you losers would be admitting that too if you weren't so busy trying to make it sound like you had been into hardcore for more than 18 months. Death of your perfect world is phenomenal yes, but this is a review about a f*cking Terror disc, there's probably a reason Cory is the reviewer and you dckheads aren't - and I assume it is because he has his own thoughts other than "i

i f*cking hate metal and metal heads, terror is a great hardcore band.they dont need shitty guitar solos and lyrics about "devils" and shit to impress anyone.metal schmucks need to stop commenting on hardcore pages. we know your pissed cause terror bathes and doesnt have long dirty dread(shit)locks. all the true hardcore kids know both of terrors albums are amazing. and yes i know that metal heads dont like lyrics about reality, but its something theylle have to get over. to all the metal dirt bag

i listen to hardcore AND play dungeons and dragons. i would love to be able to slay a dragon in my moms bastufft. but hey its all about taste. terror is great band. a lot of energy. theyre not the best band in hardcore, but theyre not trying to be the best band in hardcore. theyre just 5 kids that want to play punk rock music. f*ck yes. terror is the shiznit fo shizzle yo.

Lamb Goat better keep you reviewing records. all your reviews are the only ones worth reading cause they're honest.

G_ 7/10/2005 4:55:10 PM

Forget about Madball or SOIA. Terror are the new kings of hardcore. They put hardcore back on the map !!! best live band right now

cryptic_slaughter_ 11/19/2005 12:28:59 AM

if this is one of the best hardcore bands I'm going to puke and projectile shit at the same time. Terror has enough testosterone to create a boner the size of the universe. And not in a good way.

Jesse_ 1/4/2006 8:34:16 AM

this is getting f*cking annoying... im tired of metal kids trying to talk shit about real hardcore. get a f*cking life, and if you dont like this kind of music go f*ck yourself.
