For the past two days there has been a rumor floating around that Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds was in the hospital with a head injury. Hinds was reportedly "jumped" shortly following the group's performance on Sunday night at MTV's VMA Awards in Las Vegas. You can read the apparent origin of said story here. Subsequently, Mastodon management has reportedly confirmed to Blabbermouth.net that Hinds is indeed hospitalized with a "severe head injury." No additional information has been made public thus far.

Update: MTV.com is reporting that although his nose was broken and he sustained two black eyes in addition to his head injury, Hinds is expected to make a full recovery.
