The Human Abstract lost a good portion of their equipment while traveling in Missouri earlier this week. Here's the story from band drummer, Brent Powell:
"We left joplin, Missouri late last night after a good time at The Foundry on our way to Iowa City. I was the lucky one who got the shit shift (middle of the night driving shift of 250 miles) and everything was going steadily by the time I pulled over for gas about 160 miles down the road. As I exited the vehicle and began to walk towards the gas station I realized that the back door to our trailer was wide open...and yes, this meant that it had been open the whole time during the 160 mile drive. The result could have been worse...but still screwed us over royally. All of our stage lighting (dimmer switches, strobe lights, flood lights, extension chords, sweet old light box w/ vintage Doors and Zeppelin stickers on it.......gone....easily a $2000 value.) My 12 inch tom, 18 inch tom, cymbal bag, DW 9000 pedal.....gone - $2000 value. Everything else somehow managed to stay in the trailer during the long voyage...but the damage had beeen done.
We decided to drive all the way back to Joplin, Missouri, and start from the beginning of our journey to retrace our steps to see if we could find where everything had fallen out....so I drove all the way back. We got back around 5 in the morning, and started to retrace our steps. 4 hours later...and no luck..... we decided to suck it up and continue on with our drive to Iowa City to play tonight's show at the Picador...but a snow storm started to hit hard. We counted literally 50 cars crashed on the highway during the drive, and decided it was time to pull over because the roads were covered with ice and snow, and we couldnt see more than 20 feet ahead of us. Unfortunately we had to cancel the show that we and many others had been looking forward too.
So here we are cooped up in a motel somewhere in Iowa still trying to figure out how to afford or borrow drum equipment and light equipment..as of now we will continue to play our dates posted, and hopefully won't have to cancel another show due to weather. Here's some advice if you ever go on tour... expect the unexpected."
