BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: Formed in 1987, Sweden's Meshuggah released its debut EP in 1989. Back then, the band played a more-stripped down version of its music, influenced largely by Metallica, but also displaying time changes and polyrhythmics. The band, who would sign to Nuclear Blast Records, would release its first LP, "Contradictions Collapse," in 1991, but find little success as it was poorly promoted. After some line-up shuffling, Meshuggah would then record its 1994 EP, "None." Members of the band would suffer through some physical accidents (torn off fingers and mangled hands), causing the unit to lay low. As a result, the band's "Selfcaged" EP (circa 1994) was delayed for about a year. In 1995, the band reemerged and went on a brief tour, followed by the recording of a new album, "Destroy, Erase, Improve" (1995) followed by more touring with Roadrunner Records artist, Machine Head. Meshuggah would then produce several more releases, with "The True Human Design" in 1997, a reissue of "Contradictions Collapse & None" (1998), 1998's "Chaosphere," a collection of rare tracks in 2001, and the full-length "Nothing" in 2002.
