BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: With a nearly-10 year history documented by numerous split seven-inches, compilations, and three full-lengths, Discordance Axis raised the grindcore bar visually, musically, and aurally. Recording its first material in 1992, the trio, composed of Jon Chang (vocals), Rob Marton (guitar), and Dave Witte (drums, Human Remains, Burnt by the Sun), were an unconventional grind band, playing without a bass and drawing influences from Japanese hardcore-punk and science fiction. Discordance Axis has shared splits with Melt Banana, Hellchild, Corrupted, 324, and Casualties Capitalist. Sadly, the band respectfully called it quits in 2001, as guitarist Rob Marton suffered from a medical condition where his body would experience pain and migraines when exposed to loud noises/sounds (practice, live shows). Discordance Axis would play its final show at New York's legendary CBGBs on May 13, 2001. While many of DA's vinyl releases are out of print, listeners may want to try and track down the 'JouHou' CD (Devour Records), which includes the 'Jouhou' LP and songs from the Melt Banana and Plutocracy splits, as well as a live set. Another CD release that has much of the band's earlier works is 'Original Sound Version 1992-1995' (a.k.a. 'Sound Only') on Devour. Listeners should also note that the two aforementioned discs are slated to be re-issued through Hydrahead Records in DVD casing format, to complement the band's final full-length, 'The Inalienable Dreamless' (Hydrahead). With deep personal lyrics, high-end shrieks/low-end growls, and music that moves at a blistering tempo, DA should appeal to any grindcore fan.
