BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: Formed by an ex-Ascension guitarist Jason Hager (who has since left the group), Chimaira began in 1998 when Hager's desire to start a new metal band resulted in the recruiting of several musicians. As a six-piece, the band recorded its debut CDEP, "This Present Darkness," which was released on East Coast Empire Records. Constant touring resulted in a growing fanbase, exposure via the Internet and radio, and shows with Soulfly, Hatebreed, Spinkshank, and Snapcase. Chimaira would be recruited to join the Roadrunner Records roster, and released its debut full-length for Roadrunner, "Pass Out of Existence" in 2001. With a sound favoring nü-metal, combined with hardcore, electronics, and plenty of melody/harmonization, some believe Chimaira's music, today, is what Korn's music should have evolved into.
