BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: Featuring ex-members of
Cable,
Union Suit, and
Loga, Boston's
ISIS began to take shape in 1997. Led by the core group of Aaron Turner, Jeff Caxide, and Aaron Harris, the band recorded a demo tape in 1998, which was released on Turner's own
Hydrahead Records. The band would eventually align itself with Pennsylvania's upstart label,
Escape Artist Records, and issue 'The Mosquito Control' EP in 1998. With a growing fanbase and a number of tours with well-renowned hardcore acts, ISIS would release a second EP, entitled 'The Red Sea' on
Second Nature Recordings, which included several new tracks and the band's demo recordings. Continuing to develop its own unique sound, the band would experience minor personnel changes, but finally release its debut full-length on Escape Artist, 'Celestial.' Following the LP/CD, the band would release 'SGNL>5' on
Neurot Recordings, a follow-up/companion EP to 'Celestial.' Since the band's inception, it has also released a split 7" with grindcore band
Pig Destroyer, as well as an ultra-limited 12" single on
Tortuga Recordings, featuring covers of
Godflesh and
Black Sabbath. Drawing comparisons to
Neurosis and
Godflesh, but unique in its own right, ISIS is a visual and sonic experience of sludgy metal, noise, electronics, and ambience that must be heard to understand.
